Al centre d&#8217;aquesta ambici\u00f3 hi ha <strong>ITER, \u201ccam\u00ed\u201d o \u201cviatge\u201d en llat\u00ed<\/strong>, l&#8217;experiment cient\u00edfic internacional m\u00e9s gran dedicat a demostrar la viabilitat de la Fusi\u00f3 com a font d&#8217;energia. ITER no nom\u00e9s representa una fita tecnol\u00f2gica, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 un s\u00edmbol de cooperaci\u00f3 global en temps de creixents necessitats energ\u00e8tiques i urg\u00e8ncia clim\u00e0tica.<\/p>\n<p>Els dissenys de planta de Fusi\u00f3 Nuclear es basen en <strong>el confinament del plasma<\/strong>. En aquest sentit, hi ha dos dissenys principals: Fusi\u00f3 per Confinament Magn\u00e8tic, MCF per les seves sigles en angl\u00e8s, i Fusi\u00f3 per Confinament Inercial, o ICF. ITER cont\u00e9 un reactor de Fusi\u00f3 per Confinament Magn\u00e8tic (MCF) anomenat Tokamak, dissenyat pels Sovi\u00e8tics Andrei Sajarov i Igor Tamm el 1950, que es basa en una c\u00e0mera toro\u00efdal.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;origen del projecte <strong>ITER es remunta a la Guerra Freda<\/strong>, quan el 1985 els l\u00edders de la Uni\u00f3 Sovi\u00e8tica i els Estats Units van proposar un ambici\u00f3s projecte conjunt de recerca en Fusi\u00f3 Nuclear, basat en el disseny Sovi\u00e8tic del <strong>Tokamak<\/strong>, convidant Europa i el Jap\u00f3 a sumar-s&#8217;hi. Al llarg de les d\u00e8cades seg\u00fcents, la iniciativa va evolucionar fins a convertir-se en un consorci internacional que avui agrupa 35 pa\u00efsos, incloent-hi la Uni\u00f3 Europea, la Xina, l&#8217;\u00cdndia, el Jap\u00f3, R\u00fassia, Corea del Sud i els Estats Units. L&#8217;acord formal per a la construcci\u00f3 d&#8217;ITER es va signar el 2006 i es va seleccionar l&#8217;empla\u00e7ament de Cadarache, al sud de Fran\u00e7a.<\/p>\n<p>ITER \u00e9s, actualment, la instal\u00b7laci\u00f3 experimental m\u00e9s gran de Fusi\u00f3 Nuclear del m\u00f3n. La construcci\u00f3 del reactor va comen\u00e7ar el 2010 i, malgrat retards i desafiaments t\u00e8cnics, ha aconseguit fites significatives. El 2020, es va iniciar el muntatge dels principals components del Tokamak, i el 2022 es va instal\u00b7lar la base de l&#8217;enorme <strong>Cri\u00f2stat<\/strong>, essencial per mantenir les baixes temperatures necess\u00e0ries per al funcionament dels imants. L&#8217;objectiu principal \u00e9s aconseguirr una reacci\u00f3 autosostinguda, que produeixi 10 vegades m\u00e9s energia que la necess\u00e0ria per a generar-la.<\/p>\n<p>Segons el calendari oficial, <strong>s&#8217;espera que la primera producci\u00f3 de plasma s&#8217;assoleixi el 2034<\/strong>, i les proves d&#8217;alta pot\u00e8ncia amb deuteri i triti, els combustibles de la fusi\u00f3, <strong>el 2039<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9s una realitat que ITER enfronta nombrosos desafiaments de cara al futur. <strong>Els principals reptes s\u00f3n cient\u00edfics, tecnol\u00f2gics i financers<\/strong>. Des del punt de vista cient\u00edfic, confinar el plasma de manera estable durant llargs per\u00edodes i manejar la calor i els neutrons generats s\u00f3n problemes encara per resoldre. Tecnol\u00f2gicament, la fabricaci\u00f3 i assemblatge de components amb materials i\/o dissenys \u00fanics, o <em>&#8216;first-of-a-kind&#8217;<\/em>, requereixen innovaci\u00f3 constant.<\/p>\n<p>A nivell financer, el projecte ha superat \u00e0mpliament els seus pressupostos inicials, cosa que ha generat cr\u00edtiques i pressions per complir els terminis. A m\u00e9s, la complexa coordinaci\u00f3 internacional entre els pa\u00efsos participants afegeix capes de dificultat en la gesti\u00f3 i la transfer\u00e8ncia de tecnologia.<\/p>\n<p>Tot i que ITER \u00e9s l&#8217;experiment m\u00e9s gran i m\u00e9s emblem\u00e0tic de Fusi\u00f3 Nuclear, no \u00e9s l&#8217;\u00fanic. La carrera per assolir l&#8217;anomenada <strong>\u00abignici\u00f3\u00bb<\/strong>, o generaci\u00f3 de prou energia perqu\u00e8 la reacci\u00f3 de Fusi\u00f3 sigui autosuficient, ha despertat l&#8217;inter\u00e8s d&#8217;altres pa\u00efsos i del sector privat tot donant lloc a una aut\u00e8ntica competici\u00f3 global:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Xina<\/strong>: el reactor Tokamak EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) ha aconseguit r\u00e8cords de confinament i temperatura de plasma. La Xina tamb\u00e9 desenvolupa el CFETR (Xina Fusion Engineering Test Reactor), un projecte experimental i de demostraci\u00f3 comercial.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Estats Units<\/strong>: el National Ignition Facility (NIF), de Fusi\u00f3 per Confinament Inercial (ICF), que va assolir una reacci\u00f3 de Fusi\u00f3 amb balan\u00e7 energ\u00e8tic positiu per primera vegada el 2022. A m\u00e9s, startups com TAE Technologies i Commonwealth Fusion Systems exploren m\u00e8todes innovadors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regne Unit<\/strong>: el JET, Joint European Torus, ha estat pioner en experiments de fusi\u00f3 i l&#8217;empresa Tokamak Energy impulsa alternatives compactes. El projecte STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production), de l&#8217;ag\u00e8ncia d&#8217;Energia At\u00f2mica del Regne Unit, cerca construir una planta experimental de Fusi\u00f3 al pa\u00eds per al 2040.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jap\u00f3, Corea del Sud i R\u00fassia<\/strong>: tots aquests pa\u00efsos desenvolupen els seus propis programes i reactors experimentals, contribuint de manera significativa a l&#8217;aven\u00e7 global a la Fusi\u00f3 Nuclear.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Altres iniciatives de Fusi\u00f3 a la UE<\/strong> inclouen: el Programa de Recerca i Formaci\u00f3 d&#8217;Euratom, Horizon Europa, la llei de Recerca Europea, la llei d&#8217;Innovaci\u00f3 Europea i moltes m\u00e9s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>En aquest context de compet\u00e8ncia internacional intensa, ITER representa l&#8217;aposta m\u00e9s ambiciosa i col\u00b7laborativa per a demostrar que la Fusi\u00f3 Nuclear pot ser capa\u00e7 de revolucionar el sistema energ\u00e8tic mundial. Tot i que els reptes s\u00f3n enormes, l&#8217;\u00e8xit d&#8217;ITER aplanaria el cam\u00ed per a futures plantes comercials i acostaria l&#8217;anhelada \u00abenergia de les estrelles\u00bb.
