Llicenciada i doctorada per la Universitat de Barcelona, \u200b\u200bha treballat a prestigioses institucions com la Universitat de Tolosa, la Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona i l&#8217;observatori de Par\u00eds. Actualment, \u00e9s catedr\u00e0tica a la Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya, on dirigeix \u200b\u200bel Laboratori de Geometria i Sistemes Din\u00e0mics. Miranda ha rebut m\u00faltiples reconeixements, incloent-hi l&#8217;Acad\u00e8mia ICREA, la C\u00e0tedra d&#8217;Excel\u00b7l\u00e8ncia a Par\u00eds, el Premi Bessel de la Fundaci\u00f3 Alexander Von Humboldt i el Premi Fran\u00e7ois Deruyts de l&#8217;Acad\u00e8mia de Ci\u00e8ncies Reial Belga. Parlem amb ella sobre la seva traject\u00f2ria, sobre l&#8217;educaci\u00f3 i les matem\u00e0tiques, i tamb\u00e9 sobre una original campanya de CASIO en qu\u00e8 ha participat.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eva, moltes gr\u00e0cies per atendre Educational Evidence. Per comen\u00e7ar, podries explicar-nos una mica sobre la teva traject\u00f2ria estudiantil i acad\u00e8mica? Com t&#8217;has interessat per les matem\u00e0tiques?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Des de petita, les matem\u00e0tiques eren el meu refugi, el meu m\u00f3n perfecte on tot tenia sentit i res no quedava a l&#8217;atzar. Les matem\u00e0tiques eren com les tornades d&#8217;aquelles can\u00e7ons enganxoses que no et pots treure del cap. Em fascinaven els patrons que es repetien, aquells ritmes ocults que vibraven en n\u00fameros i f\u00f3rmules, com una melodia ben tocada. Cada problema era un trencaclosques per desxifrar, una melodia oculta esperant a ser compresa. Tot encaixava.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abEm fascinaven els patrons que es repetien, aquells ritmes ocults que vibraven en n\u00fameros i f\u00f3rmules, com una melodia ben tocada\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Per qu\u00e8 creus que fan tanta por i generen rebuig, en bona part dels estudiants, dels plantejaments curriculars de les matem\u00e0tiques en l&#8217;educaci\u00f3 prim\u00e0ria i secund\u00e0ria actual?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El problema de les matem\u00e0tiques al sistema educatiu \u00e9s el seg\u00fcent: quan un estudiant entra al sistema, ja coneix b\u00e9 l&#8217;alfabet i l&#8217;idioma, cosa que facilita la tasca d&#8217;un professor de llengua o literatura. En aquestes classes, l&#8217;alumne treballa amb elements familiars: pot fer servir les paraules per escriure poemes o novel\u00b7les i sentir-se protagonista del propi aprenentatge. Tot t\u00e9 sentit. En canvi, el llenguatge de les matem\u00e0tiques s&#8217;apr\u00e8n m\u00e9s tard, a l&#8217;escola i l&#8217;institut. No \u00e9s fins despr\u00e9s quan es pot fer servir per \u00abescriure\u00bb les pr\u00f2pies novel\u00b7les, poemes o fins i tot haikus matem\u00e0tics. Aquesta difer\u00e8ncia fa que les matem\u00e0tiques tinguin mala fama: aprendre les primeres regles del joc \u2014l&#8217;alfabet matem\u00e0tic format pels n\u00fameros i les relacions que s\u00f3n les equacions\u2014 pot resultar tedi\u00f3s. Relacionar aquest vocabulari amb la realitat \u00e9s una manera d&#8217;apropar l&#8217;estudiant a les matem\u00e0tiques.<\/p>\n<p>Per\u00f2, com aconseguir-ho? Cada mestre t\u00e9 el seu propi m\u00e8tode (el llibret), per\u00f2 no deixa de ser un desafiament. En aquest proc\u00e9s, l&#8217;alumne pot fer dos camins: o b\u00e9 s&#8217;enamora d&#8217;aquest nou llenguatge i se sent c\u00f2mode, o b\u00e9 es perd perqu\u00e8 no ent\u00e9n la necessitat d&#8217;aprendre&#8217;l. Hi ha estudiants en totes dues situacions. A les primeres etapes de l&#8217;aprenentatge, les regles s\u00f3n m\u00e9s senzilles i \u00e9s m\u00e9s f\u00e0cil \u201cno perdre&#8217;s\u201d. Tot i aix\u00f2, a mesura que el nivell de dificultat augmenta (tamb\u00e9 el nivell d&#8217;emoci\u00f3!), l&#8217;alumne que no ha ent\u00e8s les bases es pot trobar atrapat.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;A mesura que el nivell de dificultat augmenta (tamb\u00e9 el nivell d&#8217;emoci\u00f3!), l&#8217;alumne que no ha ent\u00e8s les bases es pot trobar atrapat&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A aix\u00f2 s&#8217;hi afegeix un altre problema: amb l&#8217;increment de sortides professionals per als matem\u00e0tics, hi ha menys docents especialitzats impartint classes a col\u00b7legis i instituts. Com a resultat, \u00e9s possible que alguns professors no estiguin prou motivats per ensenyar matem\u00e0tiques, cosa que dificulta encara m\u00e9s que els estudiants les apreci\u00efn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaja\u2026 Com motivar doncs els docents i els estudiants?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crec que apropar les matem\u00e0tiques a la vida quotidiana ajuda molt a despertar l&#8217;inter\u00e8s. S\u00f3n a tot arreu, encara que de vegades no ens n&#8217;adonem. Per on comen\u00e7ar? Agafa el teu m\u00f2bil\u2026 desbloqueja&#8217;l amb la teva empremta o un codi. Aix\u00f2 \u00e9s criptografia, basada en teoria de n\u00fameros. Despr\u00e9s, mira les teves fotos: la compressi\u00f3 de dades, gr\u00e0cies als <em>wavelets<\/em> (on\u00edcules), permet emmagatzemar una gran quantitat d&#8217;imatges i can\u00e7ons al dispositiu. Un exemple d&#8217;aix\u00f2 s\u00f3n els fitxers JPEG.<\/p>\n<p>Si busques alguna cosa m\u00e9s heroica, pensem en la pand\u00e8mia: les matem\u00e0tiques van ser clau per predir quan podr\u00edem sortir al carrer i per modelar l&#8217;expansi\u00f3 del virus, ajudant a frenar-ne la propagaci\u00f3. Tamb\u00e9 tenen un paper crucial en la detecci\u00f3 del c\u00e0ncer: les imatges obtingudes als esc\u00e0ners utilitzen m\u00e8todes geom\u00e8trics, ja que la tomografia es basa en la reconstrucci\u00f3 3D a partir d&#8217;imatges 2D.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abCrec que acostar les matem\u00e0tiques a la vida quotidiana ajuda enormement a despertar-hi l\u2019inter\u00e8s. S\u00f3n a tot arreu, encara que de vegades no ens n&#8217;adonem\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ara mateix vivim un moment fascinant: les matem\u00e0tiques s\u00f3n a tot arreu. Som a l&#8217;era de les dades, i el seu paper a la ci\u00e8ncia de dades \u00e9s fonamental. Des de la medicina, on milloren diagn\u00f2stics, prediuen malalties i optimitzen tractaments, fins a la intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia artificial i la tecnologia que fem servir di\u00e0riament. Incorporar aquests aspectes rellevants a l&#8217;ensenyament podria fer que les matem\u00e0tiques resultin molt m\u00e9s atractives i properes per a tothom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I als que els agrada, no obstant\u2026 quin consell donaries a aquests estudiants que estan considerant dedicar-se a les matem\u00e0tiques, i especialment a les noies?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Els diria el mateix que va proclamar Barack Obama a la seva campanya presidencial del 2008: <em>Yes, we can<\/em>! S\u00ed, podem! Si la ci\u00e8ncia \u00e9s el teu somni, atreveix-te a perseguir-ho sense por i sense dubtar. La ci\u00e8ncia necessita ments curioses, valentes i creatives com la teva, i el futur est\u00e0 aqu\u00ed, esperant a ser explorat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les matem\u00e0tiques han estat hist\u00f2ricament un camp sovint dominat, almenys medi\u00e0ticament, per homes. \u00cdnclites dones com Maryam Mirzakhani o Emmy Noether s\u00f3n encara desconegudes per al gran p\u00fablic, quins desafiaments t&#8217;has trobat tu i creus que tenen especialment les dones en matem\u00e0tiques i en la investigaci\u00f3? Com creus que es pot visibilitzar les matem\u00e0tiques i les cient\u00edfiques en general des de l&#8217;educaci\u00f3?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Els motius pels quals ara hi ha menys dones en matem\u00e0tiques que fa uns quants anys s\u00f3n diversos. Quan jo estudiava, la figura de la dona matem\u00e0tica s&#8217;associava majorit\u00e0riament amb la doc\u00e8ncia a instituts. Socialment, no generava sorpresa veure una dona impartint classes. Tot i aix\u00f2, les sortides professionals en matem\u00e0tiques s&#8217;han diversificat enormement, orientant-se en gran part cap a l&#8217;\u00e0mbit tecnol\u00f2gic. En aquest context, continua existint un estigma al voltant de la visibilitzaci\u00f3 de dones en carreres m\u00e9s tecnol\u00f2giques, possiblement a causa d&#8217;un intent de protecci\u00f3 davant d&#8217;un perill que, en realitat, no existeix. Aix\u00f2 ha contribu\u00eft a que, actualment, hi hagi menys dones estudiant matem\u00e0tiques.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abM&#8217;he trobat \u2014i continuo trobant-me\u2014 en situacions en qu\u00e8 sento la necessitat de justificar-me m\u00e9s del que caldria en certs aspectes. I \u00e9s que, en general, a les dones cient\u00edfiques se&#8217;ns q\u00fcestiona m\u00e9s\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Per part meva, els desafiaments van comen\u00e7ar a l&#8217;etapa postdoctoral, quan l&#8217;acc\u00e9s a oportunitats es torna m\u00e9s restrictiu, ja que el m\u00f3n de la investigaci\u00f3 continua estant molt masculinitzat (en alguns pa\u00efsos m\u00e9s que en altres) i, de vegades, resulta dif\u00edcil obrir-se cam\u00ed. Al llarg de la meva carrera, m&#8217;he trobat \u2014i continuo trobant-me\u2014 en situacions en qu\u00e8 sento la necessitat de justificar-me m\u00e9s del que deuria en certs aspectes. I \u00e9s que, en general, a les dones cient\u00edfiques se&#8217;ns q\u00fcestiona m\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Tenim molta feina per endavant. Hem avan\u00e7at significativament, per\u00f2 la pand\u00e8mia va suposar una reculada en alguns aspectes. Com t&#8217;hi sents?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>M&#8217;encanta aquesta iniciativa per visibilitzar les dones matem\u00e0tiques. A la col\u00b7lecci\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 hi ha Marie Curie, una icona cient\u00edfica indiscutible, per\u00f2 la pres\u00e8ncia de figures actuals com Sara Garc\u00eda Alonso aporta referents reals i vius, cosa que d\u00f3na ales a les nenes per llan\u00e7ar-se a la ci\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n<p>Mira, he portat la calculadora. Que \u00e9s bonica? No tinc paraules per descriure com n&#8217;estic d&#8217;emocionada. De veritat, encara em costa de creure-ho. He de confessar-te, amb una ll\u00e0grima als ulls, que segueixo en un n\u00favol des d&#8217;aquell 5 de gener de 2024, quan em va trucar Eloy Bernal. \u201cEva, vols estar a la col\u00b7lecci\u00f3 \u201c<em>Cient\u00edficas Casio<\/em>?\u201d. Em vaig quedar sense paraules. Jo? De veritat? Va ser un d&#8217;aquells moments en qu\u00e8 el m\u00f3n es para un instant.<\/p>\n<p>I despr\u00e9s va arribar el proc\u00e9s de creaci\u00f3 de la imatge\u2026 pura m\u00e0gia. La il\u00b7lustraci\u00f3 de Lilly Brick, una artista incre\u00efble, no podia haver estat m\u00e9s especial. Imagina l&#8217;escena: ella, en plena feina, pintant un mural a l&#8217;Aquari; jo, meravellada, veient com l&#8217;art i la ci\u00e8ncia s&#8217;entrella\u00e7aven. Ens vam veure all\u00e0, entre peixos i llums de colors, i a partir de les fotos que vam fer, amb una destresa impressionant i un toc art\u00edstic sublim, va donar vida a la imatge que ara apareix a la calculadora.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Si em permets, el reconeixement \u00e9s molt bonic, i molt necessari visibilitzar les dones en la ci\u00e8ncia i la tecnologia!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Per\u00f2 m\u00e9s enll\u00e0 del personal, aquesta iniciativa \u00e9s grandiosa, amb un impacte real i profund en els joves. Veur\u00e0s. Deixa&#8217;m explicar-te una hist\u00f2ria que m&#8217;ha tocat l&#8217;\u00e0nima: el meu pare va regalar una d&#8217;aquestes calculadores amb la meva il\u00b7lustraci\u00f3 a una nena que patia bullying a l&#8217;escola. Un dia, amb determinaci\u00f3, la noia va posar la calculadora sobre la taula. Els companys de classe li van preguntar: \u201cI qu\u00e8 fas amb aquesta calculadora?\u201d Per\u00f2 ella, sense titubejar, va respondre: \u201c\u00c9s una cient\u00edfica important i la conec\u201d. A partir d&#8217;aquell moment, el bullying es va aturar. No et sembla emocionant? Aquesta an\u00e8cdota mostra el poder transformador que pot tenir una cosa tan quotidiana a la vida d&#8217;una nena. \u00c9s com si la cient\u00edfica il\u00b7lustrada a la calculadora cobr\u00e9s vida, li allargu\u00e9s la m\u00e0 i, amb un somriure c\u00f2mplice, la convid\u00e9s a endinsar-se a l&#8217;univers de la ci\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00c9s incre\u00efble com les matem\u00e0tiques i la passi\u00f3 per la ci\u00e8ncia poden arribar tan lluny, fins i tot mitjan\u00e7ant una cosa tan senzilla com una calculadora\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9s incre\u00efble com les matem\u00e0tiques i la passi\u00f3 per la ci\u00e8ncia poden arribar tan lluny, fins i tot mitjan\u00e7ant una cosa tan senzilla com una calculadora. Saber que pot inspirar alg\u00fa, donar-li confian\u00e7a o despertar-ne la curiositat \u00e9s una cosa que m&#8217;emociona profundament. Tant de bo aquesta iniciativa ajudi que m\u00e9s nenes i joves es vegin reflectides en la ci\u00e8ncia, s&#8217;animin a fer preguntes, a explorar, a somiar d&#8217;all\u00f2 m\u00e9s b\u00e9\u2026 i, sobretot, a creure que elles tamb\u00e9 poden ser-hi. Aquest m\u00f3n de la ci\u00e8ncia ens pertany a tothom. Que les nenes creixin sabent que no hi ha l\u00edmits, que poden arribar tan lluny com vulguin, que la ci\u00e8ncia tamb\u00e9 \u00e9s el seu terreny. Iniciatives com aquesta s\u00f3n fonamentals perqu\u00e8 fan visible el que sempre hi ha estat: el talent i la creativitat de tantes nenes amb vocaci\u00f3 cient\u00edfica.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moltes gr\u00e0cies, Eva, no s\u00e9 si a partir d\u00b4ara \u201cla de la calcu\u201d, diran els alumnes.
