Aquestes tres fonts s\u00f3n, per\u00f2, contradict\u00f2ries: mentre que Plat\u00f3 i Xenofont ens presenten una figura idealitzada del fil\u00f2sof condemnat injustament, Arist\u00f2fanes es burla dels seus ensenyaments i el caracteritza com un personatge m\u00e9s aviat rid\u00edcul i pernici\u00f3s.<\/p>\n<p>Com se sap, <strong>la versi\u00f3 que ha perdurat al llarg de la hist\u00f2ria \u00e9s la plat\u00f2nica<\/strong>, amb un S\u00f2crates preocupat sobretot per l&#8217;\u00e8tica. S\u00f2crates seria el primer teoritzador sobre el b\u00e9 i la just\u00edcia com a b\u00e9ns universals i proclamaria el recurs a la pr\u00f2pia consci\u00e8ncia com a guia d&#8217;actuaci\u00f3. Actuar d&#8217;acord amb les lleis i amb la just\u00edcia comportaria estar b\u00e9 amb si mateix: caldria buscar els b\u00e9ns de l&#8217;esperit sota el control harm\u00f2nic de la ra\u00f3, en oposici\u00f3 a la disbauxa dels instints \u2013un repte que, vint segles m\u00e9s tard, provocaria la r\u00e0bia de <strong>Nietzsche<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A la versi\u00f3 plat\u00f2nica de S\u00f2crates, la virtut \u00e9s coneixement. Si coneixem el b\u00e9 i les seves excel\u00b7l\u00e8ncies, ens veurem obligats a practicar-lo, ja que qui pensa correctament actua correctament. La ra\u00f3, si \u00e9s n\u00edtida, empeny sempre cap a la virtut, en l&#8217;anomenat <strong>intel\u00b7lectualisme moral<\/strong>. Qui \u00e9s bo ser\u00e0 feli\u00e7, ben vist i honorat, perqu\u00e8 ha estat just. Fer el mal \u00e9s no saber, i aix\u00f2 empeny S\u00f2crates a defensar una de les tesis m\u00e9s optimistes sobre l&#8217;\u00e9sser hum\u00e0: no hi ha persones dolentes sin\u00f3, en qualsevol cas, ignorants, que no saben que el mal, encara que pot produir plaer, nom\u00e9s produir\u00e0 un plaer momentani i, a la llarga, ser\u00e0 dolor\u00f3s, ja que hi ha una <strong>relaci\u00f3 interna entre ra\u00f3, virtut i felicitat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Davant d&#8217;aquesta caracteritzaci\u00f3 emergeix una visi\u00f3 de S\u00f2crates for\u00e7a diferent a \u2018<em>Els n\u00favols\u2019<\/em> d&#8217;Arist\u00f2fanes. Aquesta obra ens planteja el problema de l&#8217;educaci\u00f3 de la joventut i constitueix un virulent atac contra els sofistes, entre els quals el comedi\u00f2graf inclou S\u00f2crates (com, d&#8217;altra banda, segurament feien els seus contemporanis).<\/p>\n<p>Recordem-ne l&#8217;argument. El pag\u00e8s Estreps\u00edades est\u00e0 casat amb una jove de la ciutat, refinada i amb la m\u00e0 foradada. Ella i el seu fill Fid\u00edpides, aficionat als cavalls, arru\u00efnen el pag\u00e8s amb les seves despeses absurdes. Per alliberar-se dels seus creditors, aquest necessita l&#8217;ajuda d&#8217;un advocat h\u00e0bil i sense escr\u00fapols, per la qual cosa intenta convertir Fid\u00edpides en deixeble de S\u00f2crates. Com a tal, aprendr\u00e0 l&#8217;art de guanyar processos amb males o bones arts. Essent el cas que el jove es nega a fer aquest aprenentatge, Estreps\u00edades decideix assistir personalment a les lli\u00e7ons del sofista.<\/p>\n<p>Per\u00f2 el pobre Estreps\u00edades no compr\u00e8n res del que intenta ensenyar-li el mestre; renuncia als seus ensenyaments i aconsegueix, per fi, que el seu fill Fid\u00edpides ocupi el lloc de deixeble. Aquest, un cop coneguts els trucs legals, ajuda el seu pare a deslliurar-se dels seus creditors, per\u00f2, embafat de la seva falsa saviesa, en el curs d&#8217;una discussi\u00f3 bufeteja el seu pare. Al final, el fill es penedeix d&#8217;haver-se barrejat amb aquests impostors i es venja incendiant el \u201c<em>pens\u00e0drom<\/em>\u201d de S\u00f2crates.<\/p>\n<p>Com ha afirmat Sourvinou-Inwood en relaci\u00f3 amb Eur\u00edpides , cal anar amb molt de compte amb el que diu Arist\u00f2fanes, ja que aquest autor no ofereix tant una presentaci\u00f3 ver\u00eddica dels autors que critica com una selecci\u00f3 d&#8217;aquells arguments, derivats de les seves obres per\u00f2 trets de context, que es presten a la comicitat. La qual cosa, d&#8217;altra banda, \u00e9s l\u2019objecte propi del g\u00e8nere de la com\u00e8dia. Tot i aix\u00f2, algunes de les seves informacions resulten de gran inter\u00e8s, i pensem que s&#8217;aproximen millor a la figura hist\u00f2rica de S\u00f2crates que la versi\u00f3 idealitzada que ens transmeten altres autors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arist\u00f2fanes descriu S\u00f2crates<\/strong>, juntament amb el seu deixeble Querofont, <strong>com un sofista<\/strong>. Per aix\u00f2, sovint insisteix en la idea que cobra pels seus ensenyaments. Igualment, com correspon a un sofista, el presenta com un entabanador, h\u00e0bil en el domini de la paraula i la ret\u00f2rica, per\u00f2 els <strong>ensenyaments dels quals s\u00f3n est\u00e8rils i pertorbadores<\/strong>. En 423-426, diu d&#8217;ell que nom\u00e9s venera tres d\u00e9us: el Buit, els N\u00favols i la Llengua. La Llengua es relaciona segurament amb aquesta idea de xarlataneria confusa amb qu\u00e8 es vincula a S\u00f2crates. Els seguidors de S\u00f2crates s\u00f3n anomenats \u201cfills de la terra\u201d a <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 853-854: alhora que aquesta expressi\u00f3 \u00e9s un sin\u00f2nim de \u201cmatussers\u201d, recorda la lluita dels Titans, fills de la Terra, contra els d\u00e9us, i per aix\u00f2 subratlla la consideraci\u00f3 dels socr\u00e0tics com a enemics dels d\u00e9us i, en definitiva, com a veritables <em>theomachoi<\/em> o lluitadors contra els d\u00e9us.<\/p>\n<p>Arist\u00f2fanes ens descriu alguns dels ensenyaments que transmet S\u00f2crates, especialment a la primera part de l&#8217;obra, quan Estreps\u00edades est\u00e0 enlluernat amb uns coneixements que no ent\u00e9n per\u00f2 que creu que s\u00f3n importants. Tot i el to burlesc de la com\u00e8dia, podem intuir que S\u00f2crates s&#8217;interessa molt per l&#8217;astronomia (v. 202), les matem\u00e0tiques (amb problemes sobre quantes vegades salta una pu\u00e7a al llarg de la pota per fer un recorregut determinat, v. 145) i la geometria (v. 203). A la seva escola tamb\u00e9 s&#8217;estudia gram\u00e0tica, ret\u00f2rica i l\u00f2gica (cosa necess\u00e0ria per a un sofista), com veiem al llarg di\u00e0leg sobre el g\u00e8nere de les paraules (vv. 655-699) i als versos 740-741. Igualment, S\u00f2crates planteja sovint q\u00fcestions relacionades amb la teologia i els d\u00e9us (vv. 1506-1597), relacionant-les amb l&#8217;astronomia.<\/p>\n<p>Entre els mestres o influ\u00e8ncies de S\u00f2crates, es considera que hi ha una al\u00b7lusi\u00f3 a Hip\u00f3 de Regio a <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 94-97, a Anax\u00edmenes a <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 225-234 = 64 C 1 DK (per Anax\u00edmenes, el principi de totes les coses era l&#8217;aire), a Pr\u00f2dic (a qu\u00e8 fa refer\u00e8ncia el corifeu a <em>N\u00favols<\/em>, vv. 358-363) i a Di\u00e0gores (a <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 816-831 es qualifica a S\u00f2crates com \u201cel Melio\u201d, al\u00b7ludint a Di\u00e0gores de Melos). Tots ells es caracteritzen per haver interpretat la realitat al marge dels d\u00e9us o per haver-los negat directament (Di\u00e0gores \u00e9s un dels ateus m\u00e9s grans de l&#8217;Antiguitat).<\/p>\n<p>Es despr\u00e8n d&#8217;aquests ensenyaments que S\u00f2crates cerca una explicaci\u00f3 racional de la realitat, de car\u00e0cter f\u00edsic, en la l\u00ednia, certament, d&#8217;Anax\u00edmenes, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 d&#8217;altres fil\u00f2sofs presocr\u00e0tics. En aquest sentit, les veritables divinitats s\u00f3n els N\u00favols (vv. 252-253 i 329) i per aix\u00f2, quan intenta investigar sobre teologia, Arist\u00f2fanes presenta S\u00f2crates burlescament susp\u00e8s en un cistell, per contemplar millor el cel (N\u00favols 225-234 = 64 C 1 DK). Els n\u00favols (vv. 316-318) es presenten com a origen de la intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia. Igualment, en la l\u00ednia, per exemple, d&#8217;un Anax\u00e0gores, es busca un principi del moviment, una cosa que dirigeixi als n\u00favols, i que ara no \u00e9s el \u00ab<em>nous\u00bb,<\/em> sin\u00f3 l&#8217;anomenat \u201cTorbell\u00ed eteri\u201d (vv. 380-383), que en altres moments substitueix Zeus.<\/p>\n<p>Igualment, tots els fen\u00f2mens naturals, com ara el llamp i el tro, es poden explicar perfectament des de la racionalitat, sense cap intervenci\u00f3 de Zeus (vv. 370, 375, 395). \u00c9s significativa la refer\u00e8ncia dels versos 398-402, en qu\u00e8 s&#8217;indica que Zeus no utilitza correctament el seu poder (el raig) per castigar els malvats, ja que no ha ferit perjurs com Sim\u00f3, Cle\u00f2nim o Teor i, en canvi , s\u00ed que ha colpejat amb el llamp el seu propi temple, al cap Sunion: aix\u00f2 ens fa dubtar de la seva racionalitat i de la seva just\u00edcia. Aquesta refer\u00e8ncia, per cert, t\u00e9 un paral\u00b7lelisme a <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 905, en qu\u00e8 l&#8217;Argument Pitjor detecta injust\u00edcia a les narracions sobre els d\u00e9us, en una l\u00ednia semblant a la que ens revela l&#8217;Eutifr\u00f3 de Plat\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Els d\u00e9us tradicionals, doncs, no tenen sentit en aquesta nova interpretaci\u00f3 racional, i aix\u00ed a <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 365-367 s&#8217;afirma clarament que \u201cZeus no existeix\u201d, o a <em>N\u00favols <\/em>423-426, com hem indicat, s&#8217;afirma que S\u00f2crates nom\u00e9s reconeix tres divinitats, el Buit, els N\u00favols i la Llengua \u2013afirmaci\u00f3 que, tot i no estar exempta d&#8217;ironia, ens revela clarament que S\u00f2crates no admet els d\u00e9us de la tradici\u00f3. A <em>N\u00favols<\/em> 575-580, el corifeu es queixa que, sent ells els d\u00e9us m\u00e9s beneficiosos, siguin els \u00fanics que no reben libacions.<\/p>\n<p>Si S\u00f2crates no admet la religi\u00f3 de la polis, l\u00f2gicament tampoc no fa preg\u00e0ries als d\u00e9us tradicionals, i aix\u00ed en 263-268 trobem una preg\u00e0ria a l&#8217;Aire. Igualment, tampoc no es jura per aquests d\u00e9us (vv. 246-247) sin\u00f3 per altres realitats (vv. 627 i 815-816). Als versos 270-274 trobem una bella invocaci\u00f3 als n\u00favols, als quals s&#8217;ofereixen un sacrifici i ritus sagrats. Al vers 620, se&#8217;ns indica que els sofistes (Arist\u00f2fanes est\u00e0 pensant en S\u00f2crates) no fan sacrificis, sin\u00f3 que fan servir el temps dels sacrificis per discutir als tribunals. Als versos 423-426, Estreps\u00edades es nega a fer sacrificis als d\u00e9us tradicionals.<\/p>\n<p>Observem finalment que aquests ensenyaments es transmeten f\u00e0cilment als seus deixebles, i aix\u00ed Estreps\u00edades (vv. 816-831) comunica al seu fill Fid\u00edpides que no creu a Zeus Ol\u00edmpic, i als versos 1241-1241 es burla del creditor perqu\u00e8 aquest jura per Zeus i per tots els d\u00e9us. Als versos 1461-1474, \u00e9s Fid\u00edpides qui s&#8217;ha conven\u00e7ut de les teories de S\u00f2crates, i les discuteix amb el seu pare.
