La t\u00e8cnica consistia a fer jugar els seus alumnes simulant una <strong>cursa de cotxes de F\u00f3rmula 1<\/strong>. En una de les parets de l&#8217;aula cada alumne tenia un dibuix del cotxe davant d&#8217;una regla de dist\u00e0ncies. El docent en q\u00fcesti\u00f3 els indicava el text que aquella setmana formaria part de la cursa i divendres es procedia al joc de les curses de cotxes, \u00e9s a dir, els alumnes llegien el text proposat davant dels altres i es cronometrava la velocitat i la qualitat de la lectura executada. En aix\u00f2, mai no hi havia ni guanyadors ni perdedors, simplement s&#8217;oferien medalles d&#8217;or per als primers, medalles de plata per als segons i medalles de bronze per als tercers, quedant unes medalles anomenades &#8216;de pedra&#8217; per als que obtinguessin mals resultats, encara que aix\u00f2 mai passava. De fet, el mestre procurava que ning\u00fa fos mereixedor de les medalles de pedra ja que tots guanyaven en aquella cursa durant primer de prim\u00e0ria.<\/p>\n<p>Amb aquest simple joc on tots guanyaven, <strong>els alumnes s&#8217;esfor\u00e7aven a llegir durant tota la setmana el text requerit<\/strong>. El resultat era que, i al cap de 3 mesos, tots els alumnes dominaven la mec\u00e0nica de la lectura amb elevada motivaci\u00f3 i profunda satisfacci\u00f3. Fins i tot els pares manifestaven gust i felicitacions per aquella did\u00e0ctica. Per\u00f2 un dia la direcci\u00f3 del centre va trucar al susdit docent al despatx. El motiu va ser que <strong>li prohibirien el joc de les carreres de cotxes en aquella aula de primer de prim\u00e0ria<\/strong>. El mestre, atordit, va preguntar al seu director el motiu pel qual anaven a vedar la seva did\u00e0ctica a l&#8217;aula i la resposta va ser que <strong>el seu joc estava propiciant la competitivitat<\/strong> entre els seus alumnes, afegint direcci\u00f3 que aix\u00f2 era sacr\u00edleg i execrable en educaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Davant la proscripci\u00f3 anterior, i d&#8217;amagat de direcci\u00f3, el nostre docent va continuar amb el seu joc entre els alumnes mantenint l&#8217;\u00e8xit de la seva t\u00e8cnica per aprendre a llegir. Finalment, i al curs seg\u00fcent, el nostre docent va aconseguir feina en un altre centre d&#8217;educaci\u00f3 on no li prohibien aquesta did\u00e0ctica.<\/p>\n<p>En un altre centre, i en els primers cursos de prim\u00e0ria, hi havia un r\u00e0nquing de llibres llegits entre els seus alumnes, una cosa molt vistosa i amb diverses recompenses per als escolars, per\u00f2 direcci\u00f3 va prohibir aquesta llista en fomentar, segons aquesta, la competitivitat. Ara els nens d&#8217;aquest centre, i sense aquest est\u00edmul, gaireb\u00e9 no llegeixen.<\/p>\n<p>Vist tot aix\u00f2 cal preguntar-se s\u00ed que haur\u00edem de prohibir jugar a futbol a tots els nostres alumnes al pati, assistir a les olimp\u00edades d&#8217;escacs a casals o permetre les partides de parx\u00eds a casa. Si tot aix\u00f2 ha de ser bandejat per sempre de la nostra educaci\u00f3 en promoure la diab\u00f2lica competitivitat, com ensenyem a jugar en equip si ja no hi ha equips amb qui mesurar-se? Davant d&#8217;aquesta paradoxa \u00e9s millor condemnar aquest tipus de directives pedag\u00f2giques que prohibeixen jugar correctament a llegir, per\u00f2 que <strong>despr\u00e9s prediquen que l&#8217;escola ha de ser l\u00fadica, divertida i feli\u00e7<\/strong>. L&#8217;argument que els jocs fomenten el pecat de la competitivitat entre els alumnes \u00e9s ignorar que nom\u00e9s practiquen l&#8217;esfor\u00e7 per llegir millor. Potser succeeixi que el pecat real sigui no saber ensenyar b\u00e9 per part d&#8217;aquesta pedagogia de la no competitivitat. La ra\u00f3 \u00e9s que <strong>els pa\u00efsos amb cotes m\u00e9s grans en educaci\u00f3 augmenten la seva competitivitat<\/strong> i es desenvolupen m\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Si la cultura no impulsa l&#8217;esfor\u00e7 mai obtindrem professionals qualificats. Per als asi\u00e0tics, per exemple, l&#8217;\u00e8xit escolar dels seus fills \u00e9s el m\u00e9s crucial per a la fam\u00edlia. Si els resultats dels fills s\u00f3n adversos, els pares asi\u00e0tics pensen que el seu alev\u00ed no s&#8217;ha esfor\u00e7at prou. De fet, als Estats Units els immigrants que tenen m\u00e9s \u00e8xit estudiantil i professional s\u00f3n els fills dels asi\u00e0tics, mentre que llatins i afroamericans es queden per sota. Les fam\u00edlies asi\u00e0tiques inculquen els seus xavals que han de treballar de valent amb els estudis, i tot i que parlen una altra llengua molt diferent de l&#8217;angl\u00e8s, aquests alumnes van per davant dels anglesos aut\u00f2ctons. Afegim a aix\u00f2 que als estudiants asi\u00e0tics nouvinguts els va molt millor que als afroamericans i llatins nascuts al pa\u00eds, prova irrefutable que <strong>l&#8217;esfor\u00e7 prima sobre l&#8217;origen social, cultural o \u00e8tnic<\/strong>. Serveix d&#8217;exemple l&#8217;institut Orange County a prop de Los Angeles on la majoria dels habitants s\u00f3n vietnamites i on gaireb\u00e9 no hi ha frac\u00e0s escolar. A nivell acad\u00e8mic no hi ha difer\u00e8ncies ni entre noies i nois, ni entre classes socials, ni entre els qui parlen m\u00e9s o menys l&#8217;angl\u00e8s pel barri. L&#8217;elevat \u00e8xit escolar s&#8217;explica pel <strong>nivell d&#8217;estudi, la cohesi\u00f3 familiar i la competitivitat<\/strong>. En fi, que l&#8217;\u00e8xit asi\u00e0tic no \u00e9s gen\u00e8ticament asi\u00e0tic sin\u00f3 de la perseveran\u00e7a i l&#8217;afany.
